JUNE 2010
ARREST
Christopher Denarius Brantley
On June 2, 2010, E-911 Dispatchers received a report of a domestic call involving a "man with a gun" on Brooklyn Road outside of the Andalusia City Limits. Sheriff's Deputies responded to the call and Andalusia Police responded to the call as well. It is a common occurrence for Andalusia and other city police departments to respond to emergency calls close to their city limits until Sheriff's Deputies arrive on scene. Given the nature of the call, Andalusia Police responded quickly and arrived on scene first. A witness at the domestic scene identified Christopher Denarius Brantley, 18 years old, of Evergreen, as the individual that had the gun. Andalusia Police beagn to obtain preliminary information in the incident while Deputies were still in route. Brantley, who is under 21, had obviously been drinking. Brantley was uncooperative and was not following Officers instructions. Andalusia Officers advised Brantley he was being detained until Deputies could arrive on scene and the full facts could be determined in the incident. Brantley actively resisted the Andalusia Police Officers. Andalusia Police had gotten one handcuff on Brantley. Brantley fought with the Andalusia Police Officers and struck Andalusia Police Officer Jimmy Lassiter in the forehead with the open end of the handcuff. Officer Lassiter received a large cut to his forehead and bruising to his face. Officer Lassiter was treated for the laceration and released from the Andalusia Regional Hospital. Covington County Sheriff's Investigators have charged Christopher Denarius Brantley with Minor in Possession / Consumption of Alcohol, Obstruction of Governmental Operations, Resisting Arrest, and (Felony) Assault 2nd Degree on a Law Enforcement Officer. Deputies transported and booked Brantley into the Covington County Jail.
